Abstract:

Partnerships between translational science programs and academic health sciences libraries can act as a catalyst to accelerate research findings into clinical practice. Libraries are knowledge centers, providing access to cutting edge biomedical knowledge and expertise in scholarly communication and the dissemination of knowledge. Translational science programs assist in bridging the gap between laboratory research and clinical application. The missions of translational science programs and academic health sciences libraries align closely, particularly in areas such as interdisciplinary research, team science, knowledge management, community engagement, and dissemination.

Panelists will discuss the tangible benefits that have emerged from these collaborations, emphasizing how health sciences libraries enhance the capacity of translational science institutes to drive innovation, improve patient outcomes, and enhance student research. Panel members include key stakeholders from translational science programs and the libraries that partner with them. By leveraging the strengths of both entities, these partnerships can streamline research processes, enhance the quality of research outputs, and ensure that scientific discoveries are effectively translated into practice. This discussion will provide insights into best practices for establishing and maintaining these partnerships, with a focus on the mutual benefits that arise from such collaborations. The panel discussion will explore these themes, highlighting real-world examples and offering practical guidance for institutes and libraries aiming to forge or strengthen their partnerships.
