Abstract:

These recordings were produced on February 4, 2025 at Grace Episcopal Church in Berryville, Virginia during the singing weekend celebrating the release of The Valley Pocket Harmonist (2024). The Valley Pocket Harmonist is the second book published by The Shenandoah Harmony Publishing Company and is part of the tradition of Sacred Harp, or shape note singing, a sort of American participatory music-making or Protestant Christian hymnody.
This is the second of five sets of recordings captured on the first day of the singing weekend. Recordings were produced using a Zoom H5 portable handheld recorder with an X/Y microphone capsule. Audacity 3.7.1 was used to separate tracks and MusicBrainz Picard 2.12.3 was used to edit metadata. Separated tracks have had no post-processing performed on them.
