A US-China Virtual Exchange Program In Beijing: A Technology-Mediated Task-Based Chinese Language Course
Educational ResourceThis Open Educational Resources (OER) project, fully funded by The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) in 2020-2023, offers a completely revamped, task-based course in pre-advanced Chinese language. The technology-mediated course emphasizes authenticity, interaction, and communication. Organized around a series of pedagogical and authentic tasks, it also features a virtual, immersive US-China exchange program. The OER site includes a course overview and two thematic units on Siheyuan (four-sided courtyard) and Chinese cuisine that are highlighted and seamlessly connected with pre-tasks, core-tasks, and post-tasks. Materials for teaching and learning are presented in an all-in-one mode that is easy for teachers and students to navigate and download. Some of the tasks are transformed to be interactive through H5P, enabling learners to receive instant feedback and scoring on the Pressbooks platform.
