Twelve Doors
VideoThis virtual reality project explores how portal-based navigation and environmental storytelling can shape a viewer’s sense of presence, curiosity, and disorientation. Built in Unity using the XR Interaction Toolkit, the experience places the viewer in a central “hub” space surrounded by multiple doors, each acting as a portal to a distinct world. These worlds vary in scale, mood, and visual language—from more recognizable urban and everyday spaces to surreal, dreamlike environments—encouraging the viewer to read each space as a different emotional or narrative room.
The project focuses on interaction at an intimate scale rather than on complex game mechanics. Simple actions such as walking, turning, opening doors, and approaching objects are used to guide attention and to structure time inside the headset. Lighting, color palettes, sound, and spatial composition are treated as primary narrative tools, allowing the environments themselves to communicate tension, comfort, or ambiguity without explicit dialogue or text.
By combining a familiar architectural structure with the unnatural freedom of VR (instant travel, impossible spaces), the project investigates how virtual space can visually externalize inner states such as anxiety, curiosity, or the desire to escape. The final piece functions as both an interactive artwork and a prototype for future multi-world VR installations that link technical experimentation with personal, emotionally oriented content.
