Abstract:
In this presentation, we describe the methods used to analyze 30 interviews in which we asked graduate students about topics such as the culture of their research group, how group members communicate and interact, and how the group handles ethical issues. Over the course of this four-year study, we have found that for the quality of research and the well-being of the lab members, not only purely scientific factors and routine research and work practices are relevant, but also that the culture of the lab plays a crucial role.
